Artist Spotlight: Grace Bonney
Happy Wednesday!
I hope 2018 is treating you all well so far. I feel great but maybe that is because I am writing this entry in the sun next to a pool in Port Charlotte, Florida (my boyfriend's parents have a house here and we are on a ten-day vacation). My dry Michigan skin is soaking up every bit of this sun. I think I want to spend every start of the new year like this :)
So, I know my mother Diane is supposed to be writing the next blog entry but I have a new idea which will add an extra post each week:
I am inspired by so many artists, and by artist I mean any creative person ranging from Interior Designers, bloggers, Fashion Designers, painters, writers... the list goes on and on. Some days I catch myself spending- probably too much time- scrolling through these artist's websites and Instagrams, just admiring their work and I try to relate it to my own. They have really helped me develop my own business, but it also makes me constantly think about how I am going to stand out against the rest of them.
I think it is so important for creative people to feed off each other. So we are adding to our own blog an entry each week that will feature an artist that inspires us most.
This week: Grace Bonney
Grace Bonney is a writer, and the founder of the blog Design Sponge. Design Sponge is not only an Interior Design blog, but also focuses on the people behind the homes. Their website states "We believe the idea of "home" is one that stretches beyond the furniture inside it, so we will, from time to time, have discussions about larger cultural issues that affect our community." I love that I have found a blog that not only focuses on the functionality of Interior Design, because there are a ton of them out there, but also expands on the who, what where and why behind the design. That is where I hope this blog leads to as well.
I discovered Grace Bonney through her podcast "After the Jump" which is a series of interviews with a wide range of artists and entrepreneurs. The episodes feature topics such as how they started their own business, to branding and marketing tips. I got into podcasts just last year and After the Jump was one of the first ones I found, and I was hooked. I recommend everyone to give it a listen.
Grace Bonney is such an inspiration to me as an artist. She is a boss lady and I hope to one day be as successful as her. If you use Instagram I definitely recommend to follow Grace. Her photos just melt together so perfectly and her use of colors across her photos are so perfect and just make you smile inside (if you love visual arts as much as me you might understand what I am talking about).
Also, side note- I do not think I have ever liked the color pink so much until I discovered Grace Bonney. That is probably linked to what makes me admire other creative people the most- when they open my eyes and cause me to look at something in a different perspective, and I might discover that it was something beautiful all along.
